Cole's 12 Books Challenge (Age 9/10)

Cole has been challenged to read 12 (non-graphic novel, non-comic) chapter books this year. All year, we'll be recording each book as he finishes it.

1. THE STRANGE CASE OF ORIGAMI YODA

Certain kids don't dance at fun night. The sit on the edge of the stage. That includes Dwight, Mcquarrie Middle School's weirdest wacko. One night Tommy, Harvey, and Kellen were sitting on the stage, and Harvey bet Tommy to ask a girl named Hannah to dance. Tommy was just about to go when Dwight held up a puppet. An origami puppet. "Better ask Yoda first!" He said. Harvey snorted. "Is that supposed to be Yoda?!!" He asked. Kellen said "Well, Tommy will need all the help he can get!" Tommy said "What's Yoda's advice?" Dwight said in a squeaky voice that Tommy guessed was supposed the be Origami Yoda's "Rush in, Fools do." "If your not going to do it, I will!" said Harvey. Then he jumped off the edge and walked over. A few seconds later, he was running from some eighth grader. So the question is, can Origami Yoda really predict the future?

2. DARTH PAPER STRIKES BACK

Tommy and Dwight are now in seventh grade, and a new Empire arrives! On the first day of seventh grade, everybody thinks that it will be a good year. Then Harvey walks into the library with something on his finger! Harvey walked over to Tommy and the others. "Whoa, man. Is that... Origami Darth Vader?!!" Kellen said. "Um...." Harvey said. "Its called Darth Paper." Sara and Rhondella walked up to Harvey and said "Awwww! Darth Paper! It's so cute!" "IT IS NOT CUTE!!!!" Harvey shouted. "Relax." Tommy said. "What they are saying is that the like it." Harvey snorted, and walked away. And now, the question is, will Darth Paper destroy Origami Yoda?

3. THE SECRET OF THE FORTUNE WOOKIEE

With Dwight suspended, Mquarrie Middle School is missing its most famous attendee: Origami Yoda. And no Yoda means no case file mystery to solve. But just as Tommy is wondering if he will ever find anything to write about again, something BIG happens. Something BIG and HAIRY. Its a Fortune Wookie, a paper fortune teller in the form of Chewbacca. Sara brings it to school as a gift from Dwight, and it seems to give advice thats just as good as Yoda's! Mysterious, it is! Tommy, Kellen, and Harvey are on the case. And when their classmates start having strange "Dwight sightings", the boys have two mysteries to solve. The closer they get, the more it seems Origami Yoda will be back...

4. ONLY YOU CAN SAVE MANKIND

This book is about a boy named Johnathon Maxwell. Johnny had a friend nicknamed Wobbler. Wobbler always gave Johnny copies of games Wobbler liked. One time, Wobbler gave Johnny a copy of a game called ONLY YOU CAN SAVE MANKIND. Johnny really liked that game. So, he was about get the high score on the game when a message popped up. It said: We surrender! Johnny stared at the screen. He was pretty sure that messages were not supposed to appear randomly. Johnny pressed pause. He grabbed the instruction manual. It didn't say anything about messages. Weird. Johnny thought. He pressed save, then quit. And that is the start of a great adventure.

5. JOHNNY AND THE DEAD

After the alien incident, Johnny knew more things were going to happen. And they did. Of all the things that could have happened though, why seeing the dead? It all started when Johnny was walking home with his friends Wobbler, Bigmac, and Yo-less. So they are walking down the street and Johnny saw a mansion with a historical marker. The marker read Alderman's House. "Weird" he said to Wobbler. Wobbler said "Lets go check it out! So they did. And only Johnny saw the Alderman.

6. THE MARK OF ATHENA

Percy Jackson, Jason Grace, Piper McLean, Leo Valdez, Annabeth Chase, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque have moved onto the fourth and fifth Giantes (ji-an-tees) of Terra's\Gaea's army. As they move toward Ephailtes and Otis, Annabeth gets a message from her mom, Minerva. Follow the mark of Athena. Avenge me. When she tries to get rid of it, it just appears back in her pock like Percy's Anaklusmos. And every time she follows it a blazing owl, the sign of Athena, helps her. Jason soon finds out what the mark is pointing her toward, and the fight begins.

7. GEORGE BROWN, CLASS CLOWN

9. ART2-DEETOO'S GUIDE TO FOLDING AND DOODLING

Dwight and Yoda are back, and this time with a new ally! Art2-Deetoo, along with Origami Yoda, will teach you how to cut, paste, fold, doodle, draw smileys, play games, and... wait. TAKE PICTURES?!! Hmmm... well, whatever the case, you will be able to laugh your way through (Harvey in his underpants) this book!

10. THE SURPRISE ATTACK OF JABBA THE PUPPET

It is a dark time for Mcquarrie middle school. Dwight has come back from suspension, but now him, Tommy, Sara, Kellen, and the others must face their deadliest enemy yet: the funtime education system. Normally, the kids would ask Origami Yoda for help, but Yoda cannot help. So they form a rebel alliance and together try to beat funtime.
